Sherwood High School 35th 888

Imagine, if you will, a perfect day for running. Then imagine toeing the starting line for a 5000 meter race alongside 304 other runners. This is what Katie Kaneko and her teammates did at the Oatlands Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday Sept. 14.
Then imagine the loud report of the starter’s gun and all 304 runners flying slightly down hill toward the rest of the course. That’s what the Lady Warriors did on Saturday.
At the end of the race, Katie Kaneko came through the finish line in 11th place, with the time of 19 minutes and 29 seconds, considered an Elite time by MileSplit.com.
Sherwood’s second runner, Emily Gravell also cracked the top 100 with her 70th place finish and the time of 21 minutes 24 seconds.
Overall, Sherwood’s Varsity team, which included Emily Zanni, Marissa Harris, Corinne Wasson and Allie Burdette combined their finishing places into the score of 888 to place 35th out of 54 teams.
Freshman Lizzy Holda also had a good day on the course as she placed 157 in the Freshman-Sophomore race with the time of 26:12.
