The Great American Cross Country Festival is one of the premier Cross Country Invitationals held on the East Coast of the US. Teams travel to the Cary, NC course from as far away as California and Rhode Island. The competition is fierce. The Sherwood Cross Country team chose to compete this year.
Katie Kaneko and Emily Gravell established themselves as two of the top runners in Montgomery County and earned top 25 status in the Varsity Red Race. Both Lady Warriors went out with the leaders in the 292 runner field, and established their positions in the top 15 by the mile mark. Kaneko would finish the 5000 meter race in Second Place with her personal best time of 18:55.0. Gravell would finish in 15th place as she ran to her personal best time of 19:57.80. Kristy Trang was the Lady Warriors third runner as she powered her way to 27th place with her personal best time of 20:06.70
Kaneko’s time placed her among the top 5 runners from Montgomery County who competed in the meet.
Sherwood’s Lady harriers also competed in the JV section and placed 22 out of 31 teams .
The Sherwood Cross Country Teams next meet will be on Saturday October 19 when they will compete in the MCPS Cross Country Championships at Borher Park in Gaithersburg.
