Sherwood Freshman Katie Kaneko continued to impress onlookers as her first high school season moved past the mid point. On Saturday Oct. 13, Kaneko placed Second in the Girls Varsity “D” race defeating all but one other runner in the 173 runner field. Her finish was especially gratifying because with 400 meters to go, she had to break from a group of 4 runners to claim the second place medal and a time of 15:32.7 for the hilly 2.5 mile course. Her teammates, Emily Gravell, Christy Trang, Sofia Grossman Alexa Donaldson and Sinead Claffey also placed among the top 75 finishers to earn medals and place 8th out of 24 teams in the very competitive event.
A second freshman, Allie Burdette, continues to improve, and led the JV girls to their 12th place finish in a field of 19 teams.
The Lady Warriors will use the next two weeks for training to prepare for the Montgomery County Public Schools Championship Meet which will be contested at Borher Park in Gaithersburg, Md. on Saturday Oct. 27.
