Last night the JV field hockey team played with heart, passion and determination against a strong Whitman team. The first half was a back and forth battle as both teams aggressively tried to score. Whitman was able to score on a tip from the post to get on the board first.
In the 2nd half the Sherwood defense played hard to keep their attack out of the shooting circle. Goalie Kaci Roberts blocked several shots on goal to keep the score at 1-0. With the clock counting down to 11:20 Whitman got an offensive corner, where they capitalized with a direct hit from the top of the circle making it 2-0. A minute later Sherwood responded with a counter attack and a hard pass up the middle of the field by Lizzy Hermosilla to Capt Tarrah Welch. With the break away run Tarrah was left alone with the Whitman goalie and scored.
With 6 minutes left on the clock Sherwood gained momentum attacking the Whitman goal. With the final whistle blown Sherwood had an offensive corner for one final chance to tie the game. Whitman’s defense was able to hold the Warriors ending the game 2-1.
Congratulations to the Lady Warriors on a tough well played game all around offensively and defensively. They end the season 7-2 and already hungry for next year.
Congratulations on a very successful season! A special Thank you to all the parents and volunteers that supported and helped out through out the season!
