Last night the Lady Warriors played with a purpose to hold on to a 1-0 win over Northwest. During the first half the Warriors started off conservatively and then switched gears applying direct pressure defensively. With 6 minutes left on the clock with a shot to goal blocked by the Northwest keeper there was a scramble for the ball. Sherwood gained possession and passed the ball back and forth to maintain possession with quick direct passes. Caitlin Ruane on post tapped it in to squeeze it by their defense for the score. The forward s Shelby Cohen, Katrina Hanson, Caitlin Ruane and Carly Sefcik had close shots that barely missed their mark.

Northwest began shifting the momentum in the game as they aggressively countered trying to score. The last 10 minutes of the game Sherwood played a solid defensive game led by Megan Carmody, trapping and stealing the ball from Northwest forwards on break away runs. Great defensive plays by Rose Gottschalk, Arya Sharna and Evelyn Miller and Capt Ella Joliet, stifled Northwest’s chances. Goalie Kaci Roberts had 4 blocked shots to hold off Northwest.

Great game Sherwood! Come out and support field hockey as JV plays their last game of the season vs Whitman on Monday Oct 14th. Don’t forget to wear pink as this is field hockey’s Pink out in support of Play4the Cure night. JV plays at 5:30 and Varsity at 7PM.
