Two Hundred and Fifty-seven boys lined up to start the Great American Cross Country Festival’s Seeded Varsity Race on October 5 in Cary, NC. Among the starters were the members of the Sherwood Boys Varsity Team. In less than 16 and a half minutes, Sean Enright and Jack Anderson would cross the finish line in 10th and 14 place. Both would finish the 5000 meter course in personal best times: Enright in 15:59.20 (5:08 per mile pace), and Anderson in 16:05.50 (5:10.8 per mile). 57 seconds later, Sherwood’s next five runners would finish within 17 seconds of each other, and the team would earn 10th place honors out of 37 teams.
Sherwood’s Harriers also competed in the JV I and JV II races. The top finisher for the team was Luel Belanyeh who finished 110 in the 243 man JV I race.
Sherwood’s next meet will be the MCPS Championships on October 19 at Borher Park in Gaithersburg.
