Congratulations to Sherwood High School Swimming and Diving Coach Brendan Lees for being named the 2016 National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Mideast Sectional Coach of the Year for Girl’s Swimming. He was awarded the NFHS Maryland Coach of Year for Girl’s Swimming in late October. Coach Lees will be now be considered the NFHS National Coach of the Year!

I am honored to nominate Sherwood High School Swimming and Diving Coach Brendan Lees for the NFHS Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year Award. Coach Lees was named the 2015-2016 Washington Post All Met Girls’ Swimming Coach of the Year, a first in school history! He led the Lady Warriors to titles at the prestigious 2016 DC Metros Meet and the 2016 Maryland 4A/3A State Championships, another set of “firsts” in school history! His girls’ squad set Maryland State Meet records in the 200 medley and 400 free relay. In addition, Coach Lees has led the Lady Warriors to 5 straight 4A/3A North Regional and Montgomery County Division II titles and runner up at the 2013 and 2015 Maryland 4A/3A State Championships. He has coached 9 individual state champions, 4 relay state champions, six 1st team All-Met, and 10 All-American event qualifiers. Coach Lees led the boy’s squad to a 2016 4A/3A North Regional title. He has coached one 1st team All-Met and five All-American qualifiers. Coach Lees utilizes his passion for swimming and diving to teach his student-athletes that commitment to effort will spark achievement. He consistently fosters personal growth via coach-athlete reflection on results and advice on setting future performance goals. Sherwood HS is so very lucky to have Coach Lees on staff because he truly embodies the positive influence a coach has on the maturation of a student-athlete both in and out of the pool.

Congratulations Coach Lees and Good Luck in the National round!
